2011 Relay for Life
On the 26th and 27th of Febuary Angus McMillan Concrete staff took part in the annual Cancer Society Relay for Life. This year we were walking in memory of our dear friend Brian Thomas. Brian worked for us for 14 years before he was diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away a week later. Brian was loved by everyone he met, he was a dedicated staff member and a loyal friend.
Our team "Charlies Horses" raised approx $3000 for the HB Cancer Society we achieved this by donations from family and friends and we held two fundraising events. Our Hawaiian quiz night was a huge success with a good time had by all, the winning team was LHT Design, Congratulations. And our family fun day was just that alot of fun for the kids and the bigs kids to. Thank you to all the local busniesses that supported us with these events by donating prizes and thank you to all our staff their time and enthusiasm.
The relay for life started on Saturday at 12 noon, we had people arriving all afternoon to do their part and walk the track. Evan Kitt took one for the team and modelled our newspaper wedding dress. The walking continued through the night and into the wee hours of Sunday morning, I was so greatfull when all the kids arrived for breakfast and got on the track it was a much needed rest. Sunday morning went by quickly and before we knew it, it was over.
Over the 24hours while walking around that 400m track i met some amazing people, all with stories to tell of sadness, hope and joy. I was tired, my body ached and i had experienced every emotion possible. I am gratefull for my team for all their support and energy. We can only hope that one day all our hardwork will mean that we will find a cure, and there will be no more unnecessary battles fought and lost with cancer.
Rest in peace Charlie Horse you are always in our hearts.

World of Concrete, Las Vegas - February 2010
Angus McMillan Concrete staff regularly attend the annual World of Concrete trade show in Las Vegas.
This year in February Angus and Carol went to Las Vegas by themselves. The trip was unplanned as they were expecting the arrival of their first grandchild but "Tyler" decided to arrive 9 weeks earlier than planned leaving "Grandma and Grandad" plenty of time to go to the World of Concrete. (and do lots of shopping)
This year at the World of Concrete Angus and Carol attended various seminars with concrete grinding and polishing on the top of the list for investigaion but this year was made even more special as Angus McMillan concrete won an award with the American Concrete Society for their work at the Plus Rehab site in Taradale. This was a great honor to win this award and even more of an honor for Angus and Carol to receive the award in person and show the world what NZ is made of.
Once again this was an enjoyable trip for Angus and Carol, learning more about our growing industry and catching up with friends and coligues.
Master Concrete Placers Association Conference - June 2010
This years conference was held in Hamilton at the Kingsgate Hotel. This year Angus and Carol were excited to bring their good friends Brad and Gennie to New Zealand. Angus and Carol met Brad at the World of concrete where he takes seminars on business and staff managment. Angus and Carol have attended many of Brads Seminars in the USA and wanted to share his talent with the rest of the association.
Brad and his wife flew into NZ and spent 2 weeks touring NZ sightseeing and holding bootcamps and seminars in various NZ towns. Brads Seminars were such a success that he has decided to come back to NZ in 2 years to do another tour.
The conference was enjoyed by all nobody can stop talking about Brads boot camp and seminar on "carp" and the highlight of the weekend the Awards dinner "My school ball" the outfits from the 60's, 70's and 80's were amazing and we finished off the night with a good boogie to some classic rock music.
